Description
The project studies the Mediterranean harbors of the Roman Empire. It is based at the University of Southampton, UK, is funded by the European Research Council through the Rome's Mediterranean Ports Advanced Grant. It is connected with the Portus Project, that specifically regards Portus, the harbor of ancient Rome.
From the project webpage's About page:
- The project focuses upon the organization and scale of pan-Mediterranean commerce during the first three centuries AD. It will embrace existing techniques that have been developed in archaeology, ancient history, geomorphological studies and computing.
